How to stop hair loss without costly drugs, surgeries or chemicals? What are the natural ways to regain the beautiful crown of glory without side effects using effective natural treatments?

Know the composition of follicle

The papilla is a tiny organ which produces hair cells. A healthy papilla will be filled with blood which it combines with protein to form keratin. Keratin forms 97% of the cells and this are forced out of the follicle to replace old cells.

The shaft comprises of three layers. Cuticle which is the outermost layer is where the cells can be chemically stimulated and is the layer to allow for moisture absorption. This is the layer that is most susceptible to damage from chemical treatments. The second layer – cortex, contains the pigmentation and gives the natural color. Medulla, that last layer,is the marrow of the shaft and this usually cannot be found in fine hair.

Understanding causes of hair loss

Now you know about the composition of the shaft and follicle, lets dig deeper on what are the causes for the condition.

One of the major cause is dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a result of the conversion of testosterone as it reacts with an enzyme in our body called 5-alpha reductase. DHT restricts and inhibits blood flow to the papilla at the base of the follicle. Hence this prevents the combination of protein and blood to produce the required cells for renewal.

Estrogen obstructs effects of DHT which is why women are less susceptible to this condition. Women tend to have a higher estrogen level and hence they are protected from this condition. However changes in a woman’s life cycle can expose women to this condition e.g. during menopause.

Simple improper grooming techniques such as using a brush to brush your wet hair or parting your hair can also cause you to lose a few strands. Tight hairstyles, plucking and tweezing can also lead to permanent loss.
